Geopolitically, the Middle East may be regarded as consisting of 3 separate but interrelated concentric circles, each with its own interest, policies and outcomes: external powers; Middle Eastern states’ foreign policies; and Middle Eastern states’ domestic arenas. Each circle impacts the other two and is impacted by them. The purpose of this session is to review recent interactions among these 3 circles and explore their effects on the current regional geopolitical situation.
