In recognition of the 70th anniversary of Israel's independence, we will learn Israel's Declaration of Independence as an example of a new canonical Jewish text. We will discuss the fascinating behind-the-scenes process of writing this monumental document, the Jewish values outlined, and the successes and failures in enacting those values in today's Israeli society.
