Idelle Packer

Idelle is thrilled to attend/team-teach her first LimmudBA session this season.  As a dancer and choreographer in New York, she danced and toured with The New York Dance Collective, a resident company of NYU School of the Arts, and later worked with choreographers Remy Charlip, Deborah Wanner, Roslyn Newman, Clarice Marshall and Jonathan Hollander.  Her current choreographic project, inspired by the work of Stan Tenen and the Meru Foundation, expands the gestural language of the Hebrew Aleph-Bet into full dance expression delving into the meaning of the letters as pathways to knowledge and understanding of our relationship to our world, each other and the Divine.  Performed as a pilot project in March and May 2017, a new full evening length work entitled “Reveal” will premier November 3 in Asheville, NC.  Idelle studied dance and composition at Sarah Lawrence College, earning a BA in 1971.  Expanding to the healing arts, she completed her teacher certification in the Alexander Technique in 1979 and a masters in physical therapy from Columbia University in1995, receiving the University’s Clinical Excellence Award.  She continues to integrate her current passions: Jewish meditation and Kaballah, contact improvisation and the somatic and healing arts both in her choreography, her private practice and her teaching in the Asheville community and in the dance department at University of North Carolina, Asheville.
